
Dr. Myvizhi Selvan, PhD, is an Instructor at the Department of Genetics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Thoracic Oncology Center at the NCI-designated Tisch Cancer Center at the Mount Sinai Health System. She is a computational scientist focused on translating genomic discoveries into clinically relevant solutions to enhance cancer risk prediction. Her primary goal is to identify inherited genetic factors that drive cancer risk. To do so, she is developing and applying computational tools, statistical methods, and ultrafast computing pipelines to analyze massive and heterogeneous genomic datasets. In addition to prioritizing risk variants and functional gene groups in genomic epidemiology studies, she also investigates how inherited genetic factors govern the cancer prognosis and clinical management of patients.
For Dr. Selvan’s proposal, Stratifying Cancer Risk in Clonal Hematopoiesis by Ancestry and Comorbidities, her mentors will be Dr. Zeynep H. Gümüş, PhD; Dr. Ramon Parsons, MD, PhD; Dr. Robert Klein, PhD; and Dr. Bridget Marcellino, MD, PhD.
Her proposal aims to:
- Assess the impact of ancestry on cancer risk associated with clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP).
- Assess the impact of non-cancer comorbidities on CHIP-associated cancer risk.
