
Dr. Jamie Hook, MD, and her team, Aerosome Therapeutics, are using Aerosome-01 to target ARDS, a large, underserved market with over 200,000 U.S. cases annually, 30-45% mortality, and no FDA-approved disease-modifying therapies. Aerosome-01 is an inhaled mRNA lipid nanoparticle (LNP) therapeutic designed to deliver a regenerative protein directly to damaged alveolar epithelial cells, accelerating epithelial barrier repair and restoring lung function in patients with ARDS. Aerosome-01’s inhaled mRNA-LNP platform directly repairs the injured alveolar epithelium, addressing a major unmet clinical need while creating a multibillion-dollar commercial opportunity.
This first-in-class targeted therapy directly repairs the alveolar epithelial barrier with localized lung delivery, limited systemic exposure, and a non-immunosuppressive mechanism, having the potential to reduce mortality, ICU stay, and long-term complications of ARDS.
